1. Bloodwork and Other Labs
Learn about vitamin deficiencies and medical conditions that physicians evaluate to rule out medical causes of mental health symptoms. Based on your observations, you’ll craft simple questions about relevant labs (e.g., “The child wakes every night and moves around a lot. Should we check iron storage?”). If your needs exceed Dr. Hodges’ expertise, you’ll be referred to consulting physicians for further assistance. While you can ask about labs, the child’s medical providers will make the final decisions on lab orders.
2. Encouraging Physical Activity
Discover the mental wellness benefits of exercise and develop strategies to encourage physical activity in children through our service. Dr. Hodges offers live coaching to help you implement the Surf’sUP Method, guiding your child towards activities like kayaking or swimming. While finding the right pediatric physical therapist or trainer can take time, Dr. Hodges has a proven track record of helping adults identify exceptional trainers. She will support you while you ensure your child gets the physical activity they need for overall wellness.
3. Sunlight and Sleep
Circadian biology highlights the vital link between health and natural rhythms. Through this coaching, you’ll explore peer-reviewed literature on sunlight, sleep, and meal timing. Dr. Hodges can help you formulate questions for the child’s care team and review them beforehand. Medical care decisions are made by specialists in consultation with the child’s legal guardian. Dr. Hodges provides education and skill-building support.
